Financial close for Chile project: Atlas Renewable Energy has achieved the financial closing for its Copiapó Solar & Storage Project, with 357 MW solar and 320 MW/4 hours storage capacity, in Chile’s Atacama, having raised up to $475 million. It secured the financing from a consortium of local and international financial institutions, including BBVA, Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI), Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (CACIB), Natixis CIB, SMBC, and Société Générale. It is designed to generate approximately 750 GWh annually. Of this, Atlas has signed 2 separate 15-year power purchase agreements (PPA) to supply 450 GWh to Chile’s iron ore producer CAP Group on a 24/7 basis. This clean energy will fully supply the company’s operations in the Coquimbo and Atacama regions. Atlas says that with this transaction, it has surpassed $1.2 billion in project financing closed in the last 13 months. In April 2025, it announced securing the largest financing in its history globally for the construction of the Estepa Hybrid Project in Chile, totaling $510 million.
80 MW solar plant in Colombia: Built by Chinese EPC giant POWERCHINA, the 79.65 MW Guayepo III Photovoltaic Project has achieved full grid connection. POWERCHINA says the project came online 6 days ahead of schedule. The project is designed to generate close to 183 million kWh of clean electricity annually. It will help lower the country’s reliance on fossil fuels. This facility is a key component of the country’s recent efforts to engage with the Belt and Road Initiative, stated POWERCHINA.
Solar power for McDonald’s in Brazil: US-based global fast-food chain McDonald’s has signed a long-term 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP in Brazil through its 38 franchisees in the South and Southeast regions. Under the contract, EDP will supply over 61 GWh of renewable energy annually to 156 McDonald’s units. This includes restaurants, cafés, and kiosks across 6 states. EDP will ensure this supply from its 319 MW Solar Novo Oriente Plant, which is equipped with 82 inverters and over 558,000 modules.
