US-based global technology giant Apple is expanding its renewable energy portfolio by adding 650 MW of new wind and solar PV projects in Europe. This capacity will generate over 1 million MWh of clean electricity on behalf of the company’s users by 2030. 

Among the new projects it is investing in is a 110 MW solar power plant owned and operated by HELLENiQ ENERGY in Greece. Another 129 MW solar and wind power capacity is under development in Italy, with the initial project in Sicily due to come online this month. 

Apple has also signed up for Econergy’s 40 MW solar plant in Poland, which is due for commissioning later this year. Also in Romania, it will procure power from Nala Renewables’ 99 MW wind farm acquired from OX2.

In Latvia, it will source clean electricity from one of the country’s largest solar farms to date, featuring 110 MW capacity, once it is connected to the grid. Its contract with European Energy makes it one of the country’s maiden corporate power purchase agreements (PPA), it said. Apple’s investment had earlier enabled the development of ib vogt’s 131 MW solar farm in Segovia, Spain, which has been operational since the start of 2025 (see Apple Announces New Investments In Solar Energy Projects).   

Together with the Spanish project, this 650 MW renewable energy capacity will unlock more than $600 million in financing for Europe, it stated.  

“By 2030, we want our users to know that all the energy it takes to charge their iPhone or power their Mac is matched with clean electricity,” said Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson. “Our new projects in Europe will help us achieve our ambitious Apple 2030 goal, while contributing to healthy communities, thriving economies, and secure energy sources across the continent.”

The new renewable energy investments are aligned with Apple’s 2030 goal to become carbon neutral across its entire footprint, and match 100% of global customer electricity use with clean electricity through wind and solar.  

In March 2025, Apple launched its 2nd China Clean Energy Fund, starting with up to RMB 720 million to add close to 550,000 MWh of wind and solar capacity to the national grid annually (see Apple’s New RMB 720 Million Investment Fund For RE).
