一条路

这个音乐节,从一开始就像在做题,在爵士的范畴里小心求解,没有人给出过标准答案。

十四年过去,我们摸索出了一点自己的方法,逐渐将目光聚焦于前卫爵士、自由即兴领域的音乐家们。

作曲和即兴永远都是爵士乐最美的两条弧线:作曲是完成时,即兴则是献给未来的记忆,两者时而平行,时而交汇——尺度、边界,都是变量,在需要的时候,会朝着更有活力更有能量的方向漂移。

爵士乐蕴含着这一切,爵士乐古老又年轻。

它还在前进,一定还有更美的风景在等着我们。

老丹,实验/即兴音乐人,多乐器演奏者,以竹笛与萨克斯管为主要乐器。他的音乐融合了摇滚乐、实验音乐、噪音与中国传统民族音乐,作品富于即兴灵感与美学张力,常在东方和西方、古代与现代的激烈对撞之间为观众带来强压迫感的听觉体验。

在过去十年中,老丹活跃于国内与国际音乐场景中,曾赴美国、日本进行个人巡演,并与海内外诸多音乐家展开合作。2024 年,老丹受邀作为驻地艺术家在哥本哈根爵士节登台演出;同年,他在美国举行了 13 场巡回演出。

Michael Zerang 生于芝加哥,是第一代美国本土出生的亚述人后裔。自 1976 年起,他成为一名专业的音乐家、作曲家和制作人,深耕于即兴音乐、自由爵士、当代作曲、木偶剧、实验戏剧以及世界各民族音乐等多个领域。

作为一名打击乐手和作曲家,Zerang 参与录制的唱片超过百张。自 1981 年来,他在美国内外巡回演出,足迹遍及 35 个国家,并不断扩大他的合作音乐家名单。作为一位演出策划人,他曾担任芝加哥 Links Hall 艺术总监及董事会成员,策划了数百场涵盖爵士乐、传统民族音乐、电子音乐以及其他先锋音乐形式的演出。

Lao Dan is an experimental/improvisational musician and multi-instrumentalist, primarily playing dizi (Chinese bamboo flute) and saxophone. His music blends rock, experimental, noise, and traditional Chinese folk music, characterized by improvisational inspiration and aesthetic tension. Through intense contrasts between East and West as well as ancient and modern styles, it offers audiences a powerful auditory experience.

Over the past decade, Lao Dan has been active in both China and international music scenes, touring in the U.S. and Japan and collaborating with numerous musicians worldwide. In 2024, he was invited as an artist-in-residence to perform at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The same year, he completed a 13-performance tour across the U.S.

Michael Zerang was born in Chicago, and is a first-generation American of Assyrian descent. He has been a professional musician, composer, and producer since 1976, focusing extensively on improvised music, free jazz, contemporary composition, puppet theater, experimental theater, and international musical forms.

As a percussionist and composer, Zerang has over one hundred titles in his discography, and has toured to 35 countries since 1981 working with an ever-widening pool of collaborators. As a curator, Zerang was the founder and  artistic director of the Links Hall Performance Series, where he produced hundreds of concerts of jazz, traditional ethnic folk music, electronic music, and other forms of forward thinking music.

Nils Petter Molvær,挪威小号手、作曲家与制作人,融汇爵士、氛围音乐、浩室电子、碎拍等多种风格,兼收嘻哈、摇滚与流行音乐元素,举重若轻地重塑出极具深度又充满戏剧张力的独特声景。

他 1997 年的个人专辑 Khmer 至今仍是 ECM 商业上最成功、最具影响力的唱片之一,获得了超越爵士圈的热烈赞誉。这张里程碑式的专辑被公认为爵士乐向数字时代演进的分水岭,也奠定了 Molvær 作为九十年代欧洲新爵士运动领军人物之一的地位。

Norwegian trumpet player, composer, and producer Nils Petter Molvær takes multiple music styles such as jazz, ambient, house, electronic and break beats, as well as elements from hip-hop, rock and pop music, and effortlessly reshapes them into unique and dramatic soundscapes of deep intensity.

His 1997 album Khmer was a landmark release that remains one of ECM's most commercially successful and influential releases, gaining critical acclaim beyond jazz circles. It is frequently cited as a watershed for jazz's evolution in the digital age, and established Molvær's reputation as one of the leading voices of the new European jazz movement of the 90s.

Molvær has his own very individual sound, influenced as much by the poetry of Scandinavian nature as by electronic calculation, and last but not least by colleagues like Miles Davis and Jon Hassell. But more than anything else, Molvær has himself. Listening to him play, it's easy to forget that his instrument is a trumpet.

Born 1954, Joe Fonda is a composer, bassist, recording artist, interdisciplinary performer, producer and educator. From 1984 to 1999, he was the bassist with the renowned composer-improviser and NEA Jazz Master Anthony Braxton. "The music of Joe Fonda is part of a living tradition of belief and dedication. Future historians will be surprised at the breadth of Mr. Fonda's offerings. This is a real virtuoso and composer of the highest order," said Braxton.

An accomplished international jazz artist, Fonda has performed with his own ensembles throughout the world. He has  collaborated  and performed with such artists as Archie Shepp, Ken McIntyre, Lou Donaldson, Leo Smith, Perry Robinson, Bill Dixon, Han Bennink, Xu Fengxia, Gebhard Ullmann, Carla Bley, Barry Altschul and Billy Bang.

Pianist and composer Satoko Fujii, "an improviser of rumbling intensity and generous restraint" (New York Times), is one of the most original voices in jazz today. For more than 25 years, she has created a unique, personal music that spans many genres, blending jazz, contemporary classical, rock, and traditional Japanese music into an innovative synthesis instantly recognizable as hers alone. 

Since she burst onto the scene in 1996, Fujii has led some of the most consistently creative ensembles in modern improvised music. Highlights include a piano trio with Mark Dresser and Jim Black, and an electrifying avant-rock quartet featuring drummer Tatsuya Yoshida of The Ruins. Fujii has established herself as one of the world's leading composers for large jazz ensembles, prompting Cadence magazine to call her "the Ellington of free jazz."

Edition Redux is the most recent of Ken Vandermark's ensembles, adding to the MacArthur Prize winner's internationally and critically acclaimed series of bands. In addition to Vandermark, who plays saxophones and clarinet with the group, this quartet is composed of Erez Dessel (keyboards), Lily Finnegan (drums), and Beth McDonald (tuba/electronics), who represent the next wave of Chicago's creative music scene. 

The music of Edition Redux includes the range of Vandermark's interests, incorporating influences from the experimental jazz of the AACM and different schools of improvised music developed in Europe with a post-punk attitude. The band has released two widely-acclaimed albums, and has toured and performed at music festivals in Europe and the States.

This performance will be Ken Vandermark Edition Redux's debut in China.

Widely considered one of the most important European improvisers currently on the scene, Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado is a master of the instrument with immaculate technique and fascinating expressiveness of sound, embracing all the freedom that free jazz and improvised music allow him. Currently leading several cutting-edge formations, like The Bridge or The Attic, Amado is always looking for new challenges and new musical perspectives that will allow him to develop his music. 

In this new trio, named New Orbit, he brings together two of the most important improvisors of the vibrant Berlin jazz scene, Joel Grip and Michael Griener. Instinctive in the delivery, this specific trio represents a pure fusion of different languages and backgrounds, all united under the demanding discipline of total improvisation. Improvised red-hot magma and harmonic fields of timbric and textural wealth, in the same breath. Always open.

Alexander Hawkins is widely recognised as one of the UK's most innovative and imaginative pianists and composers. He is self-taught with a great love and deep knowledge of the jazz tradition which he brings, along with classical references, to his compositions and performance.  

These three musicians have played together for many years in other projects led by Hawkins, including his Quartet and Ensemble, and the Trio released their album Carnival Celestial on Intakt in 2023. Together in the Trio, the huge sound and immaculate sense of time of bassist Neil Charles and the empathic drumming of Stephen Davis produce a masterful interplay of freedom and structure, composition and improvisation.   

Hawkins and the trio have worked with Anthony Braxton in a number of his projects. In 2018, the trio performed with him in London on Braxton's Standards, and was invited in 2020 to join him on the European tour that resulted in the monumental 13-CD live box set Quartet (Standards) 2020.
