Acumen has invested in eBik, an India-based electric mobility company, to expand access to clean, affordable transportation across underserved Indian markets. The investment, made through Acumen’s Pioneer Energy Investment Initiative (PEII+), will support eBik’s growth across Tier 2 cities and rural areas where electric mobility solutions remain out of reach for low-income residents.
This funding marks another step forward in Acumen’s mission to drive climate adaptation through locally-led innovation. eBik focuses on retrofittable electric solutions and purpose-built e-bikes, transforming how communities move and thrive.
“Transportation in India is still dominated by fuel-based vehicles that are expensive to run and hard to maintain,” said Anant Jain, Founder and CEO of eBik.
“We’re building a different path — one where clean mobility is accessible to all, not just the urban elite.”

eBik’s flagship product—the Roadster e-bike—is built for the realities of rural life: low maintenance, high utility, and affordability. It’s 20-50% cheaper than market alternatives, and its core design is protected by a patent granted by the Government of India. The company also offers retrofit kits that convert existing manual carts into electric vehicles, making the shift to clean mobility more accessible for low-income households.

With support from Acumen, eBik will scale its production, grow its dealer and service networks, and expand operations to reach more last-mile users across India.
“eBik’s solution not only addresses the mobility needs of underserved workers, but also enables more sustainable livelihoods,” said Paraag Sabhlok, Associate Director at Acumen. “We’re excited to support their journey in building inclusive and climate-friendly transportation.”
Most electric vehicle startups in India are racing toward affluent urban markets. eBik is doing the opposite: designing for the people and places most often left behind. From farmers and delivery drivers to rural students and caregivers, the company is creating a new category of electric mobility. One that powers livelihoods and builds climate resilience.
