Germany is poised to report a significant rise in solar PV installations for August 2025, totaling 1.95 GW. The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said that the figure includes an estimated 10% boost to cover late registrations.
This contrasts with 1.06 GW of installations in August 2024 and compares to 1.42 GW for July 2025, a slight increase from its initially reported 1.408 GW (see Germany Installs Over 1.4 GW New Solar Capacity In July 2025).
It has been several months since Germany reached closer to the 2 GW mark. The last time it managed to come this close was in December last year with 1.97 GW.
Nevertheless, the bright spot in terms of installation pace is that the country now needs to install 1.623 GW monthly to achieve its 215 GW target for 2030, down from 1.63 GW needed till last month.
According to the agency’s figures, ground-mounted solar systems contributed 1.29 GW to total August 2025 installations, representing a month-on-month (MoM) increase of almost 100% from 650 MW last month. Rooftop solar system additions declined over the same period by over 43% to 401 MW.
Balcony solar or plug-and-play system registrations dropped slightly from 63 MW in the last month to 58 MW in the reporting month.
In overall terms, within January to August this year, Germany registered 10.7 GW of new solar PV capacity, expanding the country’s cumulative installations to 111.1 GW with 5,473,262 systems grid-connected.
Germany should continue to press ahead to achieve its 80% renewable energy share target for 2030, driven by 215 GW of solar PV, as proposed by the energy transition monitoring report commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
However, the government is contemplating ending fixed feed-in tariffs (FIT), which may lead to a temporary hike in installations before a directive to this effect is actually issued (see Germany Releases Energy Transition Monitoring Report).
