The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched the competitive tender for Round 7 of the National Renewable Energy Program, targeting 5.3 GW of new wind and solar capacity. The round is heavily solar-focused, aiming to drive major utility-scale projects. 

Of the total 5.3 GW, solar PV projects will account for 3.1 GW, including 1.4 GW from the Tabrjal 2 project in Al-Jawf, 600 MW each from Mawqaq in Hail and Tathleeth in Asir, and 500 MW from South Al-Ula in the Medina region.  

The remaining 2.2 GW will come from wind, with the 1.3 GW Bilgahah and 900 MW Shagran projects, both in the Medina region, expected to strengthen the Kingdom’s renewable energy mix.  

The request for qualification (RFQ) round is now open to interested bidders. 

As the principal buyer, SPPC says this round is aimed at enhancing the utilization of renewable energy sources in the country and displacing liquid fuels from the electricity generation sector. This renewable energy capacity addition will also contribute to the country’s power generation, achieving the optimal energy mix. 

In July 2025, SPPC signed 7 renewable energy deals totaling 15 GW under the NREP, bringing its signed capacity to 38.7 GW of the 43.2 GW launched. Already, 10.2 GW is grid-connected, set to rise to 12.7 GW by year-end 2025 (see SPPC Inks 15 GW Renewable Energy Deals In Saudi Arabia).
