While efficiency band trends provide a broader picture – since each cell technology generally falls within a specific range – there are always exceptions, and the finer details can be quite revealing. TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis H1-2025 report presents a more in-depth look at the progress of each cell technology.

Starting with the most recent data, the first half of 2025 was more or less stagnant. At the beginning of the year, TOPCon marginally overtook PERC in terms of share, climbing to 40% from 38% in the previous month. It maintained this lead, though dipping slightly to 39% by June 2025. In fact, TOPCon benefited from PERC’s decline – PERC dropped by the same 2% in January compared to December 2024. PERC share held steady at 36% for the first 5 months and slipped to 35% in June.

The only technology stream that moved upward was HJT, which gained a new member – Jetion– in June 2025. This pushed HJT’s share from 16% in January to 18% by mid-year. BC, despite being the most efficient architecture, remained the least represented, with its share unchanged at 8% throughout H1 2025.

In 2024, TOPCon was the only technology to show steady growth. It started the year at 33% and closed December at 38%, reflecting rising commercial adoption. HJT’s share hovered between 14% and 17% over the year, ending at the upper end. BC saw no significant change, consistently contributing 7 products for most of the year, apart from a brief increase to 8 in December. Meanwhile, PERC continued its multi-year decline, with its share dropping from 44% in January to 38% by year-end.

Looking further back to 2023, overall product counts increased for all technologies except PERC. TOPCon had the strongest momentum, with its share rising from 24% in January to 33% by December, driven by an increase in listed products from 24 to 33. HJT showed minor fluctuations, starting and ending the year at 18%, with a few dips mid-year. BC briefly peaked at 11 products in April before settling back to 7 by December. PERC, on the other hand, saw a clear downward trend, falling from 50% in January to 44% by year-end, as older modules were phased out and new entries dwindled. Overall, the trends continue to underscore TOPCon’s rise, the steady position of HJT and BC, and the gradual phaseout of PERC as the industry shifts toward higher-efficiency architectures. With all technologies combined, the graph may appear complex.
