Trump had previously stated that the U.S. would impose a 100% tariff on certain imported goods, including semiconductors, and claimed that TSMC would invest $300 billion in the U.S. to build the world's largest wafer fabrication plant in Arizona.

The spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Zhu Fenglian, responded to these claims. She stated that TSMC's previous forced announcement of a $100 billion investment in the U.S. had already caused panic and widespread discontent among industries and the public in Taiwan. Zhu warned that if the $300 billion investment were to materialize, it would inevitably have a significant impact on Taiwan's economy, further weakening its development momentum and autonomy.

The Taiwan Affairs Office criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan, labeling them as the biggest accomplices in the U.S. "hollowing out" Taiwan's industries. The spokesperson accused the DPP authorities of “kneeling before the negotiations before they even began” and “offering their other cheek” in tariff negotiations, while remaining secretive about the process and deceiving the public. Furthermore, the DPP authorities are accused of being overly accommodating to the U.S. in industrial matters, voluntarily offering TSMC and allowing its value to be drained, which demonstrates the DPP authorities' lack of will and ability to protect Taiwan's economic development and the welfare of its people.

The statement concluded with a strong admonition to the DPP authorities to “pull back from the brink” on their path of “fawning over the U.S. and selling out Taiwan.” It also urged the Taiwanese public and all insightful individuals to unite and actively protect their own interests.
