Huawei has sued Transsion Holdings and its affiliates at the Munich branch of the European Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Germany on June 20th, alleging infringement of Huawei's European patent EP2725797, titled 'Offset Decoding Apparatus, Offset Encoding Apparatus, and Image Filtering Apparatus'. This patent focuses on an image filtering device designed to improve memory efficiency in adaptive offset filters by limiting the depth and range of offset bits, thereby enhancing coding efficiency and memory utilization in video coding applications, making it widely applicable to image display modules in smartphones.

Transsion Holdings has acknowledged the lawsuit and stated that it will actively respond to protect the company's legitimate rights and interests. This marks the second time Huawei has accused Transsion Holdings of patent infringement; a previous case involving Transsion's theme wallpaper infringement led to a 20 million yuan claim and a settlement in June 2020.

Transsion is a domestic mobile phone manufacturer that specializes in markets such as Africa. In 2024, its global market share reached 14.0%, ranking third among global mobile phone brands. The company holds over 40% market share in the African smartphone market, ranking first, and also boasts over 40% market share in the Pakistani smartphone market. However, some of its products exhibit similarities to those of other manufacturers, leading to patent disputes.

The infringed patent, EP2725797, specifically addresses the issue of low memory efficiency in adaptive offset filters. The patented image filtering device achieves this by controlling the depth and range of offset bits, resulting in improved coding efficiency and better memory usage within video encoding processes. This technology is particularly beneficial for image display modules in smartphones, contributing to smoother and more efficient visual experiences for users.

传音是一家专攻非洲等市场的国产手机厂商，2024年在全球手机市场的占有率达到14.0%，在全球手机品牌厂商中排名第三。

其中，在非洲智能机市场的占有率超过40%，排名第一；在巴基斯坦智能机市场的占有率超过40%。

不过，其很多产品都能看到一些其他厂商的影子，因此也陷入一些专利纠纷之中。
